The General, who lives too much in the past, loses contact with the present, his children and particularly with his young second wife, nearly forfeiting her love. His daughter, Sophie, and her boyfriend, Tarquin Edward Mendigales, teach him a few deserved lessons, bringing him down to a certain actual reality.
